Dr Jiawei Hou is a research scientist at the Bureau of Meteorology with a PhD from the Australian National University (2020). Specialising in remote sensing and flood modelling, he has significantly contributed to understanding and managing water resources and flood hazards. Jiawei's groundbreaking work encompasses the development of global satellite-derived water products on river discharge, lake storage, and surface water dynamics, highlighted by the innovative Global Water Monitor App. Currently, Jiawei is pioneering a project to develop a seamless modelling chain aimed at producing probabilistic flood inundation forecasts. This initiative is crucial for enhancing disaster response capabilities, showcasing Jiawei's commitment to applying scientific expertise to real-world challenges in meteorology and natural hazards management.
