Chris Irvine works at the State Emergency Service in Tasmania, leading a team delivering programs and projects that deliver insights into flood hazards and risks, develop risk management policies and practices and increase community resilience to floods and storms.

Chris has thirty years of experience across emergency management including frontline response operations, state level incident management, community development program design and delivery, natural hazard and risk management, state level strategic planning and policy and organisational strategic design and capability development.

Chris has been involved in natural hazards research programs as an end user and advocate for over ten years with a focus on bushfire, flood, severe weather and tsunami hazard prediction, human behaviour and risk management. Chris is a strong advocate for the integration of research into practice.
