About
Dr. Erica Kuligowski is an ARC Future Fellow and Principal Research Fellow in the Engineering School at RMIT University studying evacuation and emergency communications in hazard events. With a PhD in Sociology and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Fire Engineering, she has led post-disaster research studies of response and recovery in bushfires, floods, cyclones and severe weather events. At RMIT, Dr. Kuligowski leads hazard-related research projects; e.g., to examine community experiences in the 2022/2023 floods in Victoria and South Australia, to understand community comprehension and use of bushfire maps, and to study how residents and tourists make decisions about evacuation during bushfires in high-risk areas.
