Emma McNicol is a renowned feminist philosopher, educator and researcher.
Emma’s research practice centres Trauma-Informed, culturally safe community engagement. As a Research Fellow in the National Indigenous Disaster Resilience, Emma’s research improves outcomes for First Nations people and their connection to Country in the context of climate crisis.
Emma has extensive experience in qualitative research across a range of content areas, including; gender equality and LGBTQIA+ inclusion in schools, gender and family violence prevention and Indigenous experiences of bushfire.
Prior to academia, Emma taught in high schools and developed an innovative educational curriculum on gender equality and LGBTQI+ inclusion, an initiative that was rolled out in high schools across the UK and Australia.
A recognised expert on the philosophy of Simone de Beauvoir, Emma has been invited to present her research at a number of international institutions, including the Sorbonne (Paris), the Maison Française (Oxford), University of Cardiff (Wales), the University of Haifa (Israel) and John Carroll University (Ohio).
Emma has a PhD (Philosophy) from Monash University and completed her post-doctoral fellowship with the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre.
