Dr Claire Leppold is a Senior Research Fellow at the Disaster, Climate & Adversity Unit within the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne. Claire’s research focuses on the effects of cascading and compounding disasters, emergency management policy, and ways of supporting recovery from multiple disasters. She previously worked in Fukushima following the 2011 ‘triple disaster’ (earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster) before moving to Australia to work on recovery from the 2019-20 bushfires and repeat floods. In addition to her research, Claire co-convenes the Foundations in Disaster Recovery short course at the University of Melbourne for practitioners, volunteers and community members who are (or will be) working in post-disaster settings.
