Natural Hazards Research Australia First Nations Pathways Working Group.
Natural Hazards Research Australia (the Centre) is Australia’s research centre for natural hazards resilience and disaster risk reduction. The Centre works closely with the Australian Government and other participating organisations across Australia to deliver a strategic research agenda for the nation and actively promote research utilisation.
The Centre undertakes research that promotes resilience to the impacts of natural hazards and reduces disaster risk, to support the needs of a variety of critical stakeholders – including government, emergency services, industry and communities – in mitigating impacts of, responding to and recovering from disasters caused by natural hazards.
The Centre recognises it has an important role to play in the inclusion and empowerment of First Nations Peoples in disaster resilience and natural hazards research. Given this and having recently completed a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, the Centre is in the process of developing a First Nations Strategy to guide the Centre in our commitment to supporting reconciliation and empowering First Nations voices in our research priorities and pathways.
To help inform the development of the strategy and its implementation, the Centre is seeking to form a First Nations Pathways Working Group, composed entirely of First Nations leaders and supported by Centre staff.
