This PhD research addresses knowledge gaps in flood and bushfire preparedness and aims to measure and improve people's readiness to respond to floods and bushfires.

Project details

Floods and bushfires are increasing in frequency and intensity due to climate change, resulting in significant economic loss, environmental damage, and human casualties. Although we cannot prevent these occurrences, we can learn from them. Training and education can help people make informed decisions and react effectively during natural hazards.

This research seeks to measure and improve people's preparedness for floods and bushfires to mitigate risk. Surveys will be used as self-assessment tools to investigate people's knowledge, attitude, psychological preparedness, action preparedness, risk perception and willingness to drive in floods and bushfires.

The project objective is to promote community participation in hazard risk identification and mitigation. Empowering people to take proactive measures will reduce community risk, enhance resilience and aid in a swift and organised response during emergencies.
