Two new surveys are seeking input to help inform policies on emergency response strategies and community resilience.
This Centre Associate Student research conducted by PhD candidate, Sara Fazeli (University of New South Wales) seeks to measure and improve people’s preparedness for floods and bushfires to mitigate risk.
The surveys cover bushfire preparedness and flood preparedness respectively, are open Australian residents over the age of 18 years and are anonymous.
The surveys act as self-assessment tools to explore community members’ knowledge, attitude, psychological preparedness, action preparedness and risk perception, with the aim of addressing knowledge gaps by the introduction of flood and bushfire preparedness scales.
Sara’s project aims to encourage community participation in identifying and mitigating hazards. By empowering community members to identify and take proactive measures, the project will provide a roadmap for academics and practitioners in disaster risk reduction to effectively educate people about flood and bushfire emergencies, contributing to the development of resilient communities.
Surveys close 20 December 2024.
