About

Sarah-Jayne first became interested in mobility watching how her own family managed risk as they navigated their mobile lifestyle as showman travellers in the UK. Growing up living on an ever-moving fairground, Sarah-Jayne saw first hand that mobility brings additional challenges to how individuals manage daily activities. She went on to have a family and international career in social work, community development and investigations before re-entering university to complete a Masters of Emergency and Disaster Management at Charles Darwin University.

During this time of study, COVID-19 brought challenges of mobility to the minds of the whole world. Sarah-Jayne went on to develop research looking at the manner in which some population groups have greater mobility than others and the ways in which this impacts their disaster risk, and that of the communities through which they travel.

Currently a PhD candidate, Sarah-Jayne is exploring the current knowledge and understanding of mobile populations amongst disaster practitioners and investigating the specific needs of these groups at all stages of a disaster.
