Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open for three projects:
- Quantifying and predicting bushfire risk following large-scale drought-induced vegetation die-off - closes 5pm AEDT, 2 April 2025
- Remote sensing of grass condition - closes 5pm AEDT, 4 April 2025
- Measuring success for fire and rescue services - closes 5pm AEST, 7 April 2025
Quantifying and predicting bushfire risk following large-scale drought-induced vegetation die-off
This project aims to understand the impacts of heatwave and drought on bushfire disaster risk by:
- quantifying fuel characteristics for the range of vegetation types affected by vegetation die-off across southwestern Australia
- calculating potential fire behaviour
- identifying the interactions between climate change and bushfire risk by utilising remote sensing and heatwave/drought die-off research sites to project future die-off and bushfire risk.
An online webinar, scheduled for 2pm AEDT on 18 March 2025 will provide a more detailed briefing of the project and the opportunity for interested parties to pose specific questions. Register here.
Find out more about this EOI, including how to submit, how to register for the online briefing and any frequently asked questions, on the Quantifying and predicting bushfire risk following large-scale drought-induced vegetation die-off page.
Remote sensing of grass condition
This project will create a national method using satellites to detect, identify and confirm changes in grass fuel conditions in near real-time. It will cover various soil types in both crop and pasture areas. The goal is to improve the accuracy of fire danger ratings and warnings for grassy fuel types.
EOI proposals are due by 5pm AEDT, 4 April 2025 to research@naturalhazards.com.au.
Find out more about this EOI, including how to submit and frequently asked questions on the Remote sensing of grass condition project page.
Measuring success for fire and rescue services
This project will identify evidence-based measures that will support fire and rescue services to create their own performance frameworks based on objective criteria and support the continuous improvement of policy and regulatory settings and short- and long-term business planning.
A recorded online project briefing is available to viewing on the project page.
EOI proposals are due by 5pm AEST 7 April 2025 to research@naturalhazards.com.au.
