The online survey, open to anyone in Australia aged 18 and over, asks questions about participant's comprehension of warning messages, information preferences, perceptions and knowledge of flash flood, protective actions and experiences. The survey is expected to take 10-15 minutes and is completely anonymous.
Lead by Dr Carla Mooney, Bureau of Meteorology researchers from the Centre’s Flash flooding case studies to improve predictions and the communication of uncertainty are undertaking the study to address several recommendations from the 2022 New South Wales Flood Inquiry.

Research findings will establish a baseline assessment of the public and emergency management understanding of flooding and severe weather. This will help in developing future guidance and strategies for effectively communicating flood risks to communities and assist emergency management prepare and respond to events to keep communities safe.
