A new Research data management project is now open for Requests for Tender, supported by the Australian Research Data Commons.
The 2020 Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements and the 2020 NSW Independent Bushfire Inquiry both found that Australia does not have a national centralised bushfire information database that can be used to understand trends, including in bushfire intensity and extent, and the extent and efficacy of mitigation activities. Timely access to relevant data derived from the Centre’s research is an important contributor to supporting effective and ongoing responses to many of the recommendations of the Royal Commission.
The objective of this study is to create a national data management framework and data catalogue (metadata exchange) using the bushfire data outputs of projects funded through the Centre and the previous Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, that will support all future research data outputs and be available to the community.
A key outcome of this study will be a web-based data catalogue (metadata exchange) portal through which researchers can:
- access a catalogue of available and accessible bushfire research datasets, including any specific software/systems that are required to use specific datasets – extendable to all hazards
- submit details of new datasets they propose for inclusion in the catalogue
- analyse outputs to measure use of the exchange.
Tenders are due by 5pm AEST, Wednesday 14 June 2023, to research@naturalhazards.com.au. The Centre is hosting an online project briefing at 12pm AEST, Thursday 1 June, for interested parties to learn more information about this project and ask questions. Find out more about this RFT, including the submission requirements, online briefing webinar registration and any frequently asked questions on the Research data management project page.
