Projects in Indigenous disaster resilience, land-use planning and emergency accommodation commence

Knowledge and capability in Indigenous disaster resilience, land-use planning and emergency accommodation are enhanced with three new Natural Hazards Research Australia (the Centre) projects commencing. The Centre is committed to ensuring its diverse research portfolio continues to support the resilience and sustainability of Australia in the face of natural hazards. 

Foundations in Indigenous disaster resilience will create an ecosystem of authoritative knowledge and practical guidance to better support Indigenous communities’ resilience, creating lasting change in the structures, institutions and processes of emergency management and disaster resilience.

Insights into temporary and emergency accommodation will capture lessons and improve temporary housing support for impacted people moving into stable housing. The project will provide national guidance on the design and implementation of temporary housing from the research and resources developed.

Effectiveness of land-use planning flood controls on buildings will explore how flood controls to new buildings and modifications in New South Wales over the last 10 years have been implemented to refine flood planning systems and processes in the future.
