The program for the Natural Hazards Research Forum 2025 is taking shape - take a sneak peak and be part of the discussion in Adelaide on 18-20 June about how research can be used to act big and bold to transform disaster resilience and response in Australia and around the world.

Confirmed keynote speakers at the National Wine Centre include:
- Brendan Moon AM, Coordinator-General, National Emergency Management Agency
- Tiahni Adamson, Wildlife Conservation Biologist, 2024 Young South Australian of the Year
- Mark Duckworth PSM, Deakin University – do governments trust communities?
- A/Prof Susanna Jenkins, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore – learning local and global, the Singapore perspective
- Dr Richard Smith, Resilience to Nature’s Challenges, New Zealand – learning local and global, the New Zealand perspective
Importantly, the three-day program includes plenty of space for presentations and updates from across the Centre’s research program, including PhD presentations. Workshop sessions on each morning will provide extra in-depth conversations. More information about these workshops and how to register for them will be available soon.
The Forum will close with a special panel session on Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the lessons Australia can take from the cyclone.
As Australia’s pre-eminent meeting place for thought leadership and dialogue based on natural hazards research, the Forum provides a physical meeting place for emergency management and disaster resilience practitioners and leaders, scientists and PhD students to connect with leading research, reflect on lessons learned and discuss how using research, science and innovation can, and is, transforming Australia’s disaster resilience and response. In 2024, over 300 delegates attended from more than 100 different organisations.
Delegates will hear about the critical issues and opportunities for Australia, how cross-sectorial leadership is vital to the mitigation and adaptation challenges we face from natural hazards and gain key insights on research findings and how they are being used around the country.
The Forum is an in-person, interactive event. Your voice is needed to help ensure the relevance, usefulness and direction of Australian natural hazards research to meet the changing needs of our country. However, for those unable to attend in-person, a live stream component is available for the plenary sessions of all three days, at no cost.
Registrations are coming in thick and fast – ensure you are part of the discussion about the long-term thinking and change needed to ensure Australian communities are safer, more resilient and sustainable in the face of more frequent and severe natural hazards. Don’t miss out and secure your place before the Forum sells out.
