Centre post grad scholar Fadia Isaac showcased her communication skills as a finalist at the recent Sleep DownUnder conference.
The Sleep DownUnder conference brings together industry and experts in sleep science. As part of the event, early career researchers submitted entries to the 2023 Sleep Health Foundation Innovation and Sleep Science Communication Award. Fadia was one of the five finalists identified and had the opportunity to present her research at the Adelaide conference on November 11.
Clinical psychologist at Federation University and a Postgraduate Research Scholar with Natural Hazards Research Australia, Fadia’s PhD An online cognitive-behavioural intervention for treatment of insomnia and nightmares in bushfire survivors project and is still seeking study participants to take part in the online clinical trial.
The online psychological treatment for sleep disturbances for those affected by bushfire trauma is an accessible online tool used to increase resilience and reduce mental health risks after natural hazards.
The four- or eight-week trial involves an online, self-paced, sleep specific intervention called and comprises of five modules. The modules explore sleep hygiene, sleep scheduling, controlling distractions, nightmares, methods to deal with PTSD symptoms and strategies for relapse prevention.
Earlier this year, Fadia won Collaborative Research Australia’s Early Career Research Competition for this innovative study and her exceptional communication skills.
