An online questionnaire is now open to share your experience with flooding, to improve community safety. The questionnaire is open to anyone affected by flooding in New South Wales or Queensland between January and July 2022.
Complete the questionnaire here.
The questionnaire is part of the Community experiences of the 2022 eastern Australia floods project, being undertaken by Natural Hazards Research Australia with Macquarie University, the University of Southern Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology.
This is the second phase of the research after researchers completed in-depth interviews with people affected by flooding earlier this year, with a great response rate.
The questionnaire will take between 30–45 minutes to complete and will help researchers, emergency management agencies and government departments understand what happened and how widespread or localised different flood experiences were. You will be asked about your awareness of the floods, actions you may have taken to plan and prepare for them, how you responded to any warnings and how you were affected by the flooding.
The questionnaire will be open until 13 February 2023.
Every story counts. Your experience can help us learn from what happened, to improve community safety and flood preparedness in future.
This independent research is funded by Natural Hazards Research Australia and supported by the NSW State Emergency Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
The results, which are due to be published in mid-2023, will be used to inform strategies to improve flood safety, not just in NSW and Queensland, but across Australia.
