Getting to know Natural Hazards Research Australia

Release date

24 November 2022

Researchers and industry representatives were introduced to Natural Hazards Research Australia staff at a meet-and-greet webinar this week, to learn more about how the Centre works with partners and community to create useful, actionable research.

The ‘A look inside Natural Hazards Research Australia’ webinar was held on 22 November and focused on explaining exactly how research is co-designed, so that researchers and industry representatives could learn what’s involved and ask questions.

Attendees were introduced to the Centre’s Node Research Managers – Dr Blythe McLennan, Dr Kat Haynes, Nicola Moore and Loriana Bethune – as well as the Research Services Team Leader Nicklaus Mahony and the Senior Communications Officer Bethany Patch. They learned about the background and context of the Centre’s flexible co-designed research programs, including core, commissioned, education and post-disaster research programs.

Staff then guided attendees through a typical research project lifecycle to show what was involved at each stage and exactly how researchers and partners would be working closely with the Centre’s teams at each project stage. There were also lots of tips on how to access funding, work with Centre partners to pitch research ideas, create a good project Expression of Interest submission, stay in the loop on any new research seeking submissions, and more. The webinar finished with a 30-minute Q&A session where attendees received more intel and helpful information for how to work with the Centre.

The recording of the webinar is available here or below and will be used in initiation for new researchers and industry partner representatives in future.
