What does the future of emergency management volunteering look like and how do we build the workforce we need? These questions and more were discussed in the latest episode of Me, Myself & Disaster – a podcast dedicated to sharing knowledge across the disaster sector.
This episode, Is Volunteering Dead? Building the EM Workforce of the Future, featured the Centre’s Node Research Manager and human geographer Dr Blythe McLennan, discussing the shifting landscape, workforce challenges (past and present) and new opportunities for emergency management leaders.
Blythe shared her wealth of research experience in this space, most recently through the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC’s Workforce 2030 research, as well as new Centre research that will move emergency volunteering past discussions about challenges into practical, tangible action that tackles those challenges. This new project – Reimagining emergency management volunteering: more than just words – is open for EOI until 31 May.
