The full program for the Natural Hazards Research Forum is now available, with a focus on creating meaningful opportunities for engagement and collaboration on natural hazards research.
The Natural Hazards Research Forum will take place at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 12–14 October 2022, in acknowledgement of the United Nations’ International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on 13 October. The program of presentations, panel discussions and participatory sessions begins at 12pm on Day 1 (12 October) and finishes at approximately 12pm on Day 3 (14 October), to allow delegates from around Australia adequate travel time to and from the venue.
The program brings together people from research, government, industry and community to share knowledge and contribute to the current state and future of natural hazards research in Australia – what it is, what’s being done now, how it can be used and what should be done in future.
Across three days, the program features a range of expert keynotes and presentations, as well as several opportunities for delegates to engage and contribute. This includes smaller breakout sessions on Days 2 and 3, to facilitate more in-depth discussions on a wide range of critical natural hazards research topics:
- Sustainable, safe and healthy landscapes (Day 2, 8:30am)
- Situational awareness (Day 2, 10:30am)
- Resilient and sustainable built environments (Day 2, 10:30am)
- Operational response and innovation (Day 2, 1pm)
- Learning from disasters (Day 2, 1pm)
- Workforces and communities of the future (Day 2, 2:30pm)
- Community-led recovery (Day 3, 8:30am)
- Climate scenarios and plausible futures (Day 3, 10:30am)
This collaborative program design ensures that those who want to contribute to these important conversations can do so.
Also taking place at the Forum are:
- the formal launch of Natural Hazards Research Australia, by Minister for Emergency Management, Senator Murray Watt (1pm, Day 1, 12 October)
- the launch of our Reconciliation Action Plan (6:30pm, Day 1, 12 October)
- the Disaster Challenge Final (4pm, Day 2, 13 October), the final pitch of brilliant new ideas.
- a tailored information session for natural hazards research students.
Registrations are open – register now to be involved in the future of natural hazards research.
