Are you an Early or Mid-Career Academic or Practitioner (EMCAP) working in the natural hazards space? Do you dream of making a real difference at the national level, advocating for a more positive, inclusive and effective sector?

If you're bursting with energy and ideas to champion diversity, equity and inclusion across the natural hazards ecosystem, we’ve got an exciting opportunity just for you!

Natural Hazards Research Australia is inviting expressions of interest to join the Executive Committee of the EMCAP Network in 2025.

Executive Committee membership is voluntary and open to all early and mid-career academics and practitioners actively engaged in natural hazards research and/or practice. Initial membership is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. The Executive Committee meets throughout the year to plan and deliver network activities that align with the needs and interests of EMCAP members. Member contributions will inform the development of an EMCAP Action Plan so that we can take practical, incremental steps towards this shared vision. We are seeking a diverse committee from across Australia that represent academia, industry, government, and the not-for-profit sector. We welcome a diverse array of applicants and strongly encourage EMCAPs who are often underrepresented to apply. If you are looking for a unique opportunity to collaborate with passionate and clever people who champion collaborative, innovative, and progressive approaches to natural hazards research and practice, apply now!

This voluntary role is perfect for highly engaged and enthusiastic EMCAPs from across the natural hazards research and management community. You’ll work with the Centre to:

  • Lead and deliver professional development activities
  • Build strong stakeholder connections
  • Strengthen the bridge between research and practice

The EMCAP Network is all about empowering the next generation of leaders in natural hazards. Together, we’ll support excellence in science and management and help shape a safer, more resilient Australia through collaborative, impactful research.
