2023 flood inquiries now in database

Release date

18 April 2023

The recommendations from the three important inquiries into flooding in New South Wales and Queensland during 2022 are now accessible via the Inquiries and Reviews Database, ensuring this one-of-a-kind data source is up to date.

The addition of the three flood inquiries undertaken in 2022 into the database, as well as four state inquiries into the 2019/20 bushfires, and state audits into bushfire equipment management and recovery grants, brings the total number of inquiries accessible to 324, dating back to 1886 across all states and territories. Importantly, all 4,360 recommendations from the 192 natural hazard inquiries conducted since 2003 can now be custom searched, identifying important topics to focus on.

The new inquiries are:

  • New South Wales: Planning and Managing Bushfire Equipment Audit 2023
  • New South Wales: Bushfire Recovery Grants Audit 2023
  • Queensland: South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding Event February-March 2022 Review 2022
  • New South Wales: NSW Independent Flood Inquiry 2022
  • New South Wales: NSW Select Committee Inquiry 2022
  • Victoria: Inquiry into the 2019-20 Victorian Fire Season: Summary Report Phase 2 - Progress and effectiveness of Victoria's immediate relief and recovery arrangements 2021
  • Victoria: Reducing Bushfire Risks Audit 2020
  • Queensland: K'gari (Fraser Island) Bushfire Review 2020
  • Queensland: Queensland Bushfires Review 2019-20

Launched in October 2019, the Inquiries and Reviews Database gives emergency services the upper hand in learning from the past to create a better future by allowing users to search and compare recommendations through keywords and themes, as all recommendations have been coded into specific categories.

To help Natural Hazards Research Australia with ongoing improvements of the Inquiries and Reviews Database, the Centre is seeking feedback from users through a 10 minute survey. Complete here.

The Inquiries and Reviews Database is an outcome of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC’s Major post-event inquiries and reviews: review of recommendations Tactical Research Fund project, completed in 2017 and commissioned by AFAC.
